Taking its inspiration from Alper Maral's interview with Finnish composer Kaija Saariaho, BUT2 is composed by using one excerpt from Saariaho's sentence, "yes, I am a woman composer but…" to highlight gender, identity, and belonging issues in the music scene.
By using manipulation techniques, I basically aimed to create a sonic world that would make the audience feel discomfortable.
Saariaho's initially interrupted sentence is heard as a complete sentence, at the end of the work. So I could say that the purport of the piece is expressed right there.
In addition to the composer's sentence, I also used the sounds of a 3D printer, electro-cello, and Korg Volca Modular Synthesizer. Therefore, I can say that this electro-acoustic work, also includes concrete music elements.
