All around the world, women and the LGBTQ+ community have been subject to various forms of violence; verbal, mental, physical, sexual, etc. from their partners and loved ones, acquaintances, their colleagues, the state, and even their fellows. While the actions of perpetrators are being legitimized via state institutions - by either conveniently not enacting the laws or actively suspending them women and LGBTQ+ keep dying, being raped, being suppressed in every corner of the world, every passing second.

Despite the oppressive attitude of states and their violence towards women and LGBTQ+ community, they continue to raise their voices in the different locations of the world. Hence, to remind all women and LGBTQ+ community that we are not alone in this roller coaster, and to create a sonic activism platform, "I Am Not Alone In This Shit" will be collecting sounds from women's and LGBTQ+ protests. In addition to these, I Am Not Alone In This Shit also welcomes artistic works (i.e sound art, video art) related to women's and LGBTQ+ rights movements.

As a part of everyday life ambiances, sound and silence have an enormous capacity to occupy places, to reach out to human and non-human boundaries, to evoke the feeling of unity, or to escalate conflicts between oppositional groups. Moreover, sounds and silence are also one of the most important means for the states to discipline and punish their citizens as well as to render them inaudible by creating a climate of fear in everyday life. Therefore, during political movements, as a mode of contention and response to the states' sonic politics in everyday life, sound and silence effectively are used by the oppressed groups as tools to spread their message and to claim their existence as well as make themselves audible in the place.

During acts of resistance, ambiances are constituted by our kinesthetic affiliations with our surroundings and fellow bodies via emotions and senses. Each body as being the embodied version of emotions perceives the environment in diverse modes. Therefore, the project will be displaying varied resistance modalities of different individuals. Ultimately, although we perceive all these associations in our unique ways, I Am Not Alone In This Shit!

I Am Not Alone In This Shit prioritizes submissions from women, LGBTQ+, women of color, LGBTQ+ people of color, and other marginalized voices.
